Botanical book print of a Primula Auricula
The vintage lithographic print of a Primula Auricula is an original print taken from a book of full colour illustrations and is not a modern copy. It is a wonderful image in great condition with stunning detail and colouring. It is a reproduction from a painting by P J Redoute.
The image is of two flowers heads from a Primulas, one with deep purple flowers and yellow centres, and the other with paler purple flowers with paler yellow centres, plus green foliage.
Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759 – 1840), was a painter and botanist from Belgium, known for his watercolours of roses, lilies and other flowers and has been called the greatest botanical illustrator of all time. His pictures have been reproduced in many garden and art books.
This image would have come from a book of prints, and the left edge is slightly rough were it has been removed from the book binding. Condition is good and the image is bright and clear and printed on good quality paper. The print measures 26.5 cm by 34 cm.
It would look fantastic mounted and framed and would display well in numerous rooms. It would also look stunning displayed with other lithographic prints. Makes a beautiful gift for an anniversary, birthday, thank you or house warming.
The picture will be rolled and posted in a tube.
