A vintage Edison Bell Phonograph Company cylinder is a fascinating piece of music history and makes a great display piece. It could be used as vase for dried flowers and makes an interesting gift for a music lover.

Dating from the early 1900s the blue and white cardboard tube advertises "Edison Gold Moulded Records - Newest and Best" and "Made Throughout in a British Factory. Inside is a black celluloid phonograph tube for "Christ Church Call" with Chimes (Band).

Phonograph cylinders are one of the earliest mediums for recording and reproducing sound and reached their greatest popularity between circa 1896 to 1915. They cylinders have recordings engraved on their outside surface and were played on a mechanical cylinder phonograph. From the 1910s the competing disc record system became increasingly popular and eventually dominated the market.

The cylinder box is 11 cm tall and 6.5 cm in diameter and is in as found vintage condition showing plenty of signs of age.
