A vintage Edison Phonograph Company cylinder is a fascinating piece of music history and makes a great display piece. It could be used as vase for dry flowers and makes an interesting gift for a music lover.

Dating from the early 1900s the red and cream cardboard tube advertises "Edison Gold Moulded Records - Echo all over the world". It has a photo of Edison and various details on how it can be sold. Inside is a blue celluloid phonograph tube for "By the Dear Old River Rhine" by Campbell & Gillette.

Phonograph cylinders are one of the earliest mediums for recording and reproducing sound and reached their greatest popularity between circa 1896 to 1915. They cylinders have recordings engraved on their outside surface and were played on a mechanical cylinder phonograph. From the 1910s the competing disc record system became increasingly popular and eventually dominated the market.

The cylinder box is 11 cm tall and 6.5 cm in diameter and is in as found vintage condition showing plenty of signs of age.
